"Creating opportunity for all through information, advice, guidance, learning and inspiration"

who we are
The Library and Information Service is an important community resource available to all - whatever your age or interest. It provides lending and reference facilities, free access to its 235 People's Network computers and information facilities. 34 libraries provide a comfortable and welcoming environment available weekdays, evenings and at weekends. Five mobile libraries also take learning resources to rural and urban areas.

  • provide access to the services people need through effective use of Internet & computer technology
  • contribute to the achievement of e-government targets for service take-up and audience engagement
  • deliver an inclusive service that reflects and helps build cohesive communities
